En quelques mois, et souvent par hasard, ils deviennent de véritables idoles sur la toile grâce à leurs vidéos postées sur Youtube ou Daily Motion. Ray William Johnson fait parti de cette génération de nouveaux phénomènes éclos sur le web et encensés par les internautes.
Blogueur américain reconnu, Ray William Johnson a trouvé un excellent filon : depuis 2008, il exploite la curiosité des internautes pour les vidéos, qu’elles soient humoristiques ou insolites, le tout en ne manquant pas d’y greffant sa patte.
Le concept est simple : deux fois par semaine, chaque lundi et jeudi, il poste sur sa chaîne Youtube un best of des vidéos de la semaine d’environ quatre à cinq minutes, montage dynamique et commentaires incisifs à l’appui. L’originalité revient surtout à ses commentaires humoristiques et ses détournements des contenus, qui ont fait de lui une véritable star du web, avec plus de 500 000 vue pour chaque post !
En avril 2011, avec plus de 3 millions d’abonnées, sa chaîne Youtube devient la deuxième chaîne la plus souscrite de l’histoire du site, et ses vidéos les plus célèbres atteignent facilement le demi-million de vues.

Comédien et blogueur hors pair, le jeune homme à peine âgé d’une vingtaine d’années adopte un ton incisif et porte un regard amusé sur la culture américaine. Surfant sur la vague du succès, il vient de lancer son propre dessin-animé complètement décalé, Your favorite martian, lui aussi disponible sur le site Youtube.
Sans compter son talent, si il parvient à fidéliser son audience, c’est en entretenant une relation très forte avec son public basé sur des publications régulières et une interaction avec ses fans dans son show, qu’il termine toujours avec une question ouverte émanant des internautes, et des réponses de ces mêmes « followers ».
Son show Equals Three est culte, ses « running gags » parodiés sur Internet et les expressions qu’il a popularisé reprises par tous (geezus !, two camels in a tiny car, shut up troll, epic fail) : après seulement quelques mois de bons et loyaux services, le jeune américain est sorti de l’anonymat et brille quotidiennement sur la toile.
